Goodday all. Glad to hear wonderful comments on this blog, I also kindly want to request that we as technocrats all over should serve as a check to the branded governor knowing fully well that we are in Nigeria and surounded by Nigerias. I can tell you the mile stone success recored by Donald Duke when he was a governor was as a result of what I stated above – with some of his friend in diaspora.

Bacause of the poverty in Nigeria-Africa, when in power everyone want to just quickly do to enrish his/her pocket. It will take a while for Nigerian to be satisfied with what they have. We need a change of orentation.

@Omotaylor. Thanks a million, and God bless you. Your comments above – poem is wonderful. It takes the deep to understand you so well with a very good reasoning. Let us challenge our governor. His first request from the people was cooperation with individuals and government officals that will be going to local goverment areas to colloect data of the people – It is a good start. I was impressed regarding that, with that statistics you can now work with what the people have in mind and what the government want for the people. That is leadership. Am quit young but I know by the grace of God we are also directed by the HOLY SPIRIT.

Governor Mimiko, God bless you – please and please put smile on the face of the people, Nigeria need help so much

Glory Be to God again and again. I will like to thank Admin for feauturing this African Loft wonderful video footage as put together by Channels TV. This is an exemplification of what we say when we preach the good news of COOPERATION, COMMUNICATION, ALLIANCES AND GOODWILL for the purpose of OPEN AND ALL INCLUSIVE GOVERNANCE. Let us all put our hands together to move Ondo State forward. I love the video and like Lekan of Akure said, if on sale, I would buy one.

It is good to see the face of the Chairman of Brighter Days Network UK, Dr Rotimi Akomolafe (Sir Akombs) side by side with His Excellency, GREEEEAAAAAT IFE. They both date back to the early 70s at Ife. Dr Akomolafe, your labour of love will never be forgotte and will not be in vain. E ku aduroti Gomina wa. We are greaaaaaaaaaaat forever. BRIGHTER DAYS WILL NOW COME PERPETUALLY TO ONDO STATE IN JESUS NAME.

My people, when you look deep and spiritually into the face and eyes of our Executive Governor, what do you see? I see a determined individual with great resolve. I see a man that will never be influenced by greed or corruption, a man who would rather sell the shirt off his back to feed the poor than clothe and let them suffer. You must love him, dole ni (hausa). You must love him, not for what you think you can get (which anyway you wont by the grace of God); but for how well you can support his vision, agenda and mission in Ondo State. If you play the sycophant around him and “chop am for leg” behind, you will be in total disgrace. If you plan to double cross him, you have failed and if you plot to bring him down, you will end up in Hamman’s pit in Jesus name.

Obama was supported all over the four corners of the world, not because people want something from him personally, but because people want the best for the people and clamour for CHANGE. Same goes with Dr Mimiko. Leave him alone and let him Govern in peace and with God. Do not go with your begging bowls (for i know my lovable Naija people). For a change, please let the people live without fear and torture, let Ondo State grow. Please Please Please I beg.

We work together, we eat together, and we live peacefully together. This is how Ondo State can grow. It is therefore time to forgive the past but not forget and learn from it while being on guard. For people accursed will never stop doing evil. So we bind such people in Jesus name. Let the Governor rest at night so that he can be refreshed daily to govern Ondo State. Do not trouble him unnecessarily. I say this because our Executive Governor, being a man of the people, has an OPEN DOOR POLICY. Please do not abuse this. Live with decorum, restraint and respect. Whatever anyone will be in life, it is God that will do it, not man, not babalawo, not Aje or oso. GOD IT IS WHO KNOWS US FROM OUR MOTHER’S WOMB (Jeremiah 1).

My people, the peace of the Lord will never again depart from us in Jesus name (amen).

    Shalom :)

Admin, thanks for the good job. Can’t we use this website to replace the useless one that Ondo State is using right now. We need to have a site like this that allows people to contribute their opinion and not the fake opinions that the agagu-led administration perpetuated.

THis is good website. I love it and let us promote this to be the new Ondo state website.

    @ Oyindamola:

Thanks for the kind words. This site is a private venture, independent of the Mimiko Campaign organization. In fact, we did not plan to run the site this long when we started in 2007.

However, we have been lucky to have some great individuals on-site and whose contributions and encouragement have kept the site alive.

As the electoral matters have all come to an end, we are debating now how best to proceed — leave the site as is, or transform it into something more appropriate for the moment. Of course all suggestions are well.

    Thanks!

  9. Omotayloron 27 Feb 2009 at 1:15 pm

    Dear Admin
I have followed this site all the way from when I first saw it way back in 2007, wow 2007, that sounds a while to conclude just the one Governorship election. Anyway, all is well that ends well. I do agree that this site as a private venture cannot replace the Ondo State Agagu sponsored one. I have three contributions to this:
    1. The used Agagu site should not be touched even with a looooong spoon. We do not need to have any identity with that site.
    2. This site can be revamped, developed to include other areas e.g. Ondo community blog spots, Debates, Sponsored competitions, Ondo State what’s up section (on the lighter side), and Ondo State Development site (on the official side). Sorry these are not intended names but a description of what I am trying to say. If need be, in terms of financing, either the government or the people can come together to finance it.
    3. This site could remain solely for the purpose of following up on issues concerning Governor Mimiko’s governance in Ondo State, Democracy – how far, even name and shame any corrupt official in the new administration, because we do not want them in our government; celebrating the new Ondo State government milestones, fetes and achievements etc.

All these would need deep and careful planning and all I am saying now are just peripherial thinkings. I am mindful of the fact that the Mimiko Organisation may want to create or develop their site to follow on, but this does not stop this lovely site from carrying on. All we need is the magic word – COOPERATION.

    Peace my people. :)

@Omotaylor, I`m with you on your suggestion about this forum.
@Admin, I must say you have done well providing us this great means of sharing feelings and ideas during the political `turbulence` in Ondo State.
I do not know where Admin is but I reside in the USA and I belief Ms Omotaylor somewhere in Europe. May I ask Admin if you can let some of us know how much this site will cost to keep running ?and even go further than that, can we form something like Ondo State in Diaspora or concerned citizen of Ondo State (in Nigeria and in Diaspora) for checks and balances of Government activityand also get involved in other Humanitarian activities in the State? With a strong membership and commitment , we can shape the way(s) things are done in our beloved State. If admin agrees to this, then since you have most , if not all users Emails, you may e-mail those who are in agreement with this proposal if any and solicit for phone numbers so that we can communicate one on one or in a phone conference style if possible. My e-mail is open to you Admin.
    All remain blessed.

Welcome To The ‘New’ Ondo State
    By Niyi Akinnaso

After 22 months of dense political fog, the sun shone again on the Sunshine State in the afternoon of Monday, February 23, 2009, when Dr. Rahman Olusegun Mimiko was affirmed Governor of Ondo State by the Appeals Court and subsequently sworn in. The event brought national and even international attention to Ondo State and spoke loudly about the character of its people as well as the tenacity of Dr. Mimiko and his supporters. It also spoke about INEC’s duplicity as an electoral umpire and the court’s outstanding job in righting electoral wrongs. Above all, as in Edo State, the event reminded us of the evils politicians could visit on their people in their quest for power.

The restoration of the people’s mandate attests to a common saying about the people of Ondo State: Ondo o gba gbere, that is, Ondo people would never tolerate nonsense, rubbish, wrongdoing, iniquity, peccancy, and so on. There is a long history behind the application of this saying to the people’s political behaviour. They resisted the theft of their mandate by the NNDP, popularly known as Demo, in the 1960s. They fought hard against the NPN in 1983 and against the PDP in 2007. They did not relent until the court restored their mandate in the last two cases.

For how long shall the people rely on the court, rather than authorized electoral officials, to know the true outcome of elections and for how long should justice be delayed? Everyone now expects the promised electoral reform to provide answers to these questions. However, in order for such a reform to work, a change of attitude is needed in our politicians, the electorate, and electoral umpires. The experience of following Barrack Obama from the campaign trail to the White House should be translated to our electoral process. Clearly, no electoral system can completely eradicate electoral malpractices and disputes. A good system should minimize such occurrences, guarantee quick resolution of disputes, and spell out the punishment for electoral offenders.

One unique stamp placed on Ondo State by the event of February 23 is the setting apart from the madding crowd of gubernatorial elections in 2011. Ondo State will wait until 2013, thanks to Section 180(2)(a) of the Constitution, which states that “the Governor shall vacate his office at the expiration of period of four years commencing from the date when … in the case of a person first elected as Governor under this Constitution, he took the Oath of Allegiance and oath of office”. This ensures adequate attention to future gubernatorial elections in the State.

Right from the beginning of the election campaign season in late 2006, I indicated in a series of articles in both The Guardian and PUNCH that Ondo would be an electoral warfront in which many battles would be fought. Four such battles have now been fought and won by Mimiko, namely, the campaign, voting, tribunal, and appeal battles. Clearly, many of these battles would have been unnecessary if the election umpires had done their job as stipulated by law. The cost of their iniquity has been enormous, including a long wait for justice; an illegal government for 22 months; unnecessary legal expenses; and questionable expenditure of state funds which provoked the intervention of the EFCC.

But there is one more battle to go for Mimiko; it is the battle of governance, which he will fight over the next four years. It surely will take some time before we could assess his performance in this battle. But the ramifications of the governance battle can now be sketched. First, Mimiko may have to deal with teething financial problems in the light of contracts awarded by the previous administration in which as much as 50% mobilization fees were allegedly paid. He must demand full accountability from his predecessor and from the contractors. We need to know the State’s assets and liabilities that he inherited. His initial action of freezing accounts temporarily is a welcome development. However, he must ensure compliance with the law in his actions and keep his promise not to go on a witch-hunt.

Second, although Mimiko brought the Labour Party to the league of Governors and weaned yet another State from the false grip of the PDP, he still must brace up to the possible difficulties of governing as a minority party at local, state, and federal levels. At the moment, all 18 local governments are controlled by the PDP. The PDP also profited from the 2007 botched elections by securing as many as 16 out of 26 seats in the State legislature, while the LP and AD secured nine and one, respectively. At least six of the 16 seats purportedly won by the PDP were overturned by the tribunal. At the federal level, Ondo LP has no representation either in the cabinet or in the legislature. It is good a thing that neither OBJ nor his type is in Aso Rock today.

With the current political dispensation in the State, the resolution of the six cases in the State House of Assembly, seven in the House of Representatives, and one in the Senate is most likely to be in LP’s favour. However, no matter how these cases are resolved, Mimiko would have a formidable opposition in the PDP as it tries to fight back like a wounded lion. If the lesson of the electoral battle is anything to go by, Mimiko should expect the worst. But he should strive to do the best and live by the spirit of reconciliation as spelled out in his inaugural speech: “I promise before you all today that I shall be the Governor of the entire people of Ondo State. There shall be no witch-hunt of any kind. This administration needs the support of everyone to succeed.”

The PDP needs to be careful about fighting back. Ondo people were grossly dissatisfied with the last PDP government. They complained of nepotism, cronyism, delayed action or inaction, and too much booze in high places. Besides, they were so traumatised by court-proven atrocities perpetrated by the PDP during the last election that anything the Party does within the next few years would be evaluated in those terms. The PDP surely dug a deep hole for itself in the State.

In contrast, Mimiko remains extremely popular within and outside the State as evidenced by state-wide jubilation and the cross-section of Nigerians at his inauguration. He listens, does his homework well, and works very hard. Already, he has informed citizens to complete certain forms that his administration would soon pass around. If his previous outstanding services to the State are anything to go by, Ondo citizens have a lot to hope for in a Mimiko administration.

But he needs to tread the ground carefully. He must not be magnanimous in speech alone; he must be seen to be so in deed. He must learn from President Barrack Obama, whom he admires, to reach out to the opposition. He must make inclusiveness a principled policy rather than a policy of expediency. He must not forget his campaign agenda and the promises he made on inauguration day. The people need poverty alleviation measures; good and equipped hospitals; good and equipped schools; electricity; good roads; drinking water; and profitable exploration of the State’s abundant mineral resources. Mimiko should go to work immediately and we should “see” his “hand” within 100 days.

Finally, he must hire the best people to various positions rather than merely dole out positions to perceived loyal supporters. He must also remember that Ondo citizens in the Diaspora are part of his constituency. Unlike his predecessor, who used them when expedient, Mimiko must find ways to use their expertise in his government. They are too many, too highly educated, too willing to serve, and too supportive of his course to be left out.

*Professor Akinnaso teaches Anthropology and Linguistics at Temple University, Philadelphia, United States.

  19. Omotayloron 01 Mar 2009 at 1:41 pm

As very usual, well said Prof Akinnaso. Mimiko has listening ears and I am sure is amenible to all forms of advice. My one disquiet is this – If Mimiko were to extend his governance of inclusiveness to the PDP in Ondo, in the spirit of “goodwill”; and knowing what we know about them, where do we draw the line? PDP Ondo is very tainted and care must be taken of them. A leopard will not wash off its spots. Yes, no witch haunts necessary, but all erring governmental officers from Agagu down must be brought to books. They must account for that which was bestowed on Ondo State and so lavishly squandered by them. They must not get away with it. Time we start setting the records straight. Corrupt officers will be brought to books in Ondo State, while all proven good ones, even if they are PDP will be exhonorated.

I am open to your comments folks.

By the way is Agagu holding on to his passport? He must not be allowed out of the country until he has satisfactorily answered all questions in all areas awaiting him. Agagu must not be allowed to flee, as well as key players in the Agagu regime, e.g. Eddy Olafeso, Femi Agagu, Boye to mention a few.

    Peace :)

    FORWARD EVER

Greetings my very dearest and best and Comrade in non violent arms, seeking justice for all the poor and downtrodden in Ondo State. I am sure our Executive Governor, His Excellency Dr Olusegun Mimiko will fit in as our best ever leader in this struggle. Yes its starting from Ondo State but in the not too distant future, we shall be talking of the whole of Nigeria.

For those who have been following my comments (well some could call it rants in parts, Omotaylor offers no apologies), I mentioned about the usefulness of the FORCE FIELD ANALYSIS, where instead of the well meaning, just, and people oriented few, fight against the corrupt majority, we slowly but surely win them over and change their outlook, their orientation and their life philosophy. That is from Corruption and evil, to righteousness and integrity. Well now is the time to start. I am addressing the Youths more for instead of allowing the harsh flow of life to make you forget your good upbringing, now is the time to support good govenance and do your very best to change the people around you.

If there is anyone you know, who believes stealing and lying is the Nigerian way, teach them NO. If there is anyone who thinks that bruttish force is the way, tell them NO. CHANGE is a word that we all will collectively work hard at, to make Ondo State a NEW SUNSHINE STATE. Young and Old, we must be ready to sacrifice, to be tolerant, to formulate good ideas and put these through, to become very innovative and enteprising.

Governor Olusegun Mimiko will help Ondo State but he can’t do it alone. We all have to help ourselves and help one another. We all have to rise to the ocassion together and we all have to eschew TOLERANCE AND PATIENCE. ROME THEY SAY WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY. Skeptics and trouble shooters will always want to make things difficult, but this can only be possible if we allow them. Dont let anyone use you. The struggle was hard and long. The battle was fierce and engaging, but GOD GAVE US VICTORY. Well God has done His part, we people must remember all those promises we made to God when we were petitioning Him, and we must make good our vows.

I thank God again, for today marks the One week anniversary of our landmark victory at Benin-City before we brought our Mandate back to Akure/Ondo State. God is good. God be praised. And God be with us all.

    Peace my people.

Admin am sure will never consider folding up now, judging from the responses. take time to plan and may your decisions and labour be crowned with success.

    AMANDA :)

SEEMS AGAGU’S TROUBLE HAS NOW BEGUN IN ERNEST, BUT THEN AS THE SAYING GOES, THE EVIL THAT MEN DO LIVE AFTER THEM. PLEASE READ ON COURTESY OF INDEPENDENT PAPER:

2007: MEND demands N500m unpaid rigging fee from Agagu
    By Yemi Akintomide, Correspondent, Akure

Olusegun Agagu, whom the Appeal Court sacked last Monday as Ondo State Governor, was on Sunday slammed with a N500 million bill by the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) as the fee for helping him to rig the election in 2007.

The court itself ruled that he rigged the election, fired and replaced him with Olusegun Mimiko of the Labour Party (LP), to the jubilation of voters statewide who said Agagu failed to perform.

A text message sent out on Sunday by MEND Spokesman, Ajija Bounanawei, demanded the N500 million as “unpaid rigging fee,” and saluted the Appeal Court for getting rid of Agagu.

Bounanawei said the claim by the MEND has been vindicated that it rigged election in Ese-Odo Council in favour of Agagu and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

To him, the verdict confirmed the role played by the MEND when the court concluded that there was massive rigging and violence in the council, which led to the death of Wahidi Idepe, a 300-level communicative arts student of the University of Ibadan (UI).

He congratulated Mimiko for reclaiming the mandate freely given to him by the electorate.

Bounanawei insisted that the N500 million was the contract sum agreed by Agagu and the MEND before the election, in a deal signed on his behalf by the former Secretary to State Government, Isaacs Kekemeke.

He alleged that Kekemeke, who is from Ese-Odo Council, was the link man between the MEND and the Agagu government until both sides fell out when Agagu refused to pay the fee.

Agagu has been ousted, Bounanawei noted, but he is still liable to pay the N500 million “or the MEND will go ahead and enforce payment in the usual MEND’s style.

“For the fact that Agagu has enjoyed the spoil of the office of the Governor of Ondo State he occupied illegally for about two years, it becomes necessary that he pays up the debt on the purported election that brought him to power.

“The MEND will not rest on its oars until Agagu pays up the last kobo of the said fee, as we will employ every weapon in our arsenal to ensure he pays the money we have already worked for by rigging election for him and his cohorts in Ese-Odo Council.”

Nonetheless, the MEND apologised to the people of the state, especially those in Ese-Odo Council, for helping Agagu to rig the vote on April 14, 2007.

AS I SAID NOT LONG AGO, FOR ALL THOSE WHO MADE PLEDGES TO GOD WHEN PETITIONING FOR OUR VICTORY, PLEASE REMEMBER TO GO GIVE THANKS TO OUR LORD. TAKE A LEAF FROM OUR GOVERNOR’S BOOK AS HE WENT TO GIVE THANKS TO GOD AT THE REDEEMED CHURCH OF GOD, WUSE ABUJA, YESTERDAY. PLEASE READ FULL POST COURTESY OF THE GUARDIAN:

…explains how he crushes the opposition
From Martins Oloja Abuja Bureau Chief

For the first time after his remarkable victory at the Court of Appeal in Benin, which declared him Governor of Ondo state barely a week ago, Governor Olusegun Mimiko has revealed how the arms of flesh failed his opponents and how he totally depended on the hosts of Heaven he called “the Lion of the Tribe of Judah” to crush the visibly intimidating opposition in his long drawn struggle to claim his mandate.

The Governor revealed this yesterday morning at a well attended “thanks-giving service” at the Central Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse Two, Abuja where he has been worshipping in Abuja as a serious parishioner.

The story of Governor Mimiko was a paradox of political development of some sort yesterday in the church where Pastor Elija Olukayode Daramola is a Regional Pastor and Special Assistant to the General Overseer, Pastor Enock Adejare Adeboye as his presence in the church where he has always worshipped quietly caused some stir.

Parishioners started noticing very early some unusual presence of some strange ‘big-men’some in traditional attire, some discerners noticed as security and protocol chiefs. Also noticed early were two executive seaters, which appeared where the church played host to the Vice President Jonathan Goodluck recently.

It was clear who the seaters were earmarked for when Governor Mimiko accompanied by his wife, Kemi and the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Dan Iwuayanwu walked in gracefully into the church’s beautiful auditorium. The executive couple went straight to the ministers’ corner to greet Pastor Daramola and his wife, Pastor (Mrs) Margaret Daramola before he took his seat in front of the altar. He was flanked to his right by the Chairman of the Labour Party and his wife to the left according to the due order (of the church)

Incidentally, Governor Mimiko’s thanks-giving coincided with the church’s monthly thanks-giving. The RCCG earmarks first Sunday of every month as thanks-giving Sunday in the church word-wide.

Pastor Peter Balogun, the Parish Pastor who assists the Provincial Pastor of North 5 Pastor Daramola, the S.A to G.O welcomed “the newest governor in Nigeria to the church on behalf of the parishioners” as he put it.

But the highpoint of the ceremony was when the governor was called to dance to the choristers’ tunes to mark the special thanks-giving. The man called “Iroko” some casual observers had earlier regarded as a Moslem was allowed to respond to the thanks-giving toast proposed by Pastor Daramola who had earlier preached on “thanks-giving” where he quoted extensively from Psalms 107 and 118.

Somehow, the governor’s dance steps (he was beaten flat by his wife) that began from the far church back entrance to the altar ended up at the pulpit where he told gave executive summary of how he conquered the Gargantuan and intimidating onslaught of the ruling PDP. His story in a mixed grill of Yoruba and English:

“I thank the church for the support, especially through prayers. I thank the leadership of the church. But I want to tell you briefly part of the testimony we can learn from. Let me tell you…it was a fight between darkness and light…But I didn’t fight with just bare hands…when we began the campaign, the opposition from their podium were telling us in Yoruba local song rendered this way: “Eyin omode yi kere si nomba wa” meaning: “these inconsequential youngsters were so inferior to our intimidating influence and resources”. But he said he would then respond on his own platform with a popular gospel song as he looked up to the Hills whence cometh my help: “Ki le o le se Olorun mi, Ki le o le se? Ta le o ju lo, Olorun mi, ta le o ju lo? Translated: “Who is like un to thee O Lord? Who are you not greater than, O Lord? What can’t You Do O Lord? What is impossible before you, O Lord…?

Besides, the former Secretary to the State Government in Ondo said on other occasions, the opponents would taunt his lean team with lean resources with their slogan which depicts “…power and strenght”. But he said any time they displayed that arrogance of powerless power he would resort to another song in Yoruba: “Ta lo lagbara, Jesu, lo lagbara ati ogo: translation: Only Jesus has power and glory, not any man….”

When he was asked by Pastor Mrs Daramola to choose his own usual song of praise, Dr Mimiko didn’t wait time in bursting into another song of victory:

” O ti mu mi gbagbe o, Ibanuje ana. O ti mu mi gbagbe o, Ibanuje ana: Asewere ni ise Oluwa, Oba ti mo pe to je….translation:

O Lord, you have made me to forget all the bitterness and rancour of the past; You are the one who solves problem seamlessly; Oh ye King that I call and answers fast….”

Earlier Pastor Daramola had during his ministration, asked Dr Mimiko to continue with a life of thanksgiving he demonstrated in the court-room the day he was declared. Daramola’s Advise: “Continue to recognise Him in your life as you did in court last Monday when you were declared governor: You removed your cap and went on your knees and thanked God…in the midst of the people…continue to do that Sir. God will that way continue to be with you in all your ways as you acknowledge Him….”

At the end of the service, the church gave the governor some gifts as administered by Pastor Margaret Daramola, wife of the Regional Pastor and Assistant Pastor Olukemi Balogun, wife of the Parish Pastor, Peter Balogun.

One other significant element Dr Mimiko revealed was that throughout the titanic struggles, he asked his supporters not no engage in any alternative spiritual activities including fetish. He said in Yoruba again: “A so fun won pe ki won ma k’aanu wa”: we told them not to pity us with fetish arrangement”.

Humility per excellence. This is a rare virtue now in Nigeria especially among our political elites. This governor is amazingly humble. The arrogance of the PDP is nauseating and that was what led to their downfall in Ondo State. The slogan of POWER JOO; POWER JARE is teribly annoying. They forgot that all power belong to God and in democracy power belong to the people. I am sure they now know that pride will always go before a fall.
@Admin: Please count me in among the people who will continue to participate in this forum for a long time. I come from a politically conscious family in Ondo State and they continue to feed me with developments in my local government and the state in general, but my continued participation in this forum will give me an opportunity to monitor objectively events across the nooks and crannies of the state. The difference between our new governor and the period of the locust needs comparison and contrast. This forum is fortunate to have comentators who are very passionate about progress and development in Ondo state and I am proud to be associated with you all. I will not forget omotaylor with whom I have lengthy exchange of information during the appeal period.
    Peace y’all.

I dont know you but God knows you. One day we shall all have cause to be in Ondo State to “Gbasibe o jareeeeeee” in glee by the grace of God. Well said above. I am sure Admin gets our drift and we shall develop a “next level” forum on this worthy site.

    God bless :)

I feel so glad when I hear comments on this forum when blogger say they have not meet each other before but yet they share common opinion on matters relating to democrasy and the state as a whole. I wish this can be replicate in all the other state. I have drawn so much ideas from this forum. Thanks Admin.

NATION PAPER REPORTS ON MIMIKO’S PROGRESS:

Mimiko, legislators end row over frozen councils’ accounts 3/3/2009

    From Damisi Ojo, Akure

Ondo State Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and of the House of Assembly yesterday resolved their differences over Mimiko’s freezing of accounts of the local government areas.

The two parties met yesterday in Akure, behind closed doors, and pledged to work together in the state’s interest.

The lawmakers had threatened to impeach Mimiko for usurping their powers over council administration.

They argued that the governor lacked the power to freeze the councils’ accounts as only the House could do so.

The Speaker, Mr. Taofeek Abdusalam, told reporters after the meeting that the disagreement between them had been resolved.

Mimiko said the freezing of the state’s accounts would not affect governance and payment of workers’ salaries.

He said provision had been made to meet the expenses of government, adding that as soon as he is properly briefed on the positions of the capital expenses, the government would decide on what to do.

He, however, attributed the impeachment threat to a misrepresentation of facts by the media.

He said both the executive and legislature were partners in progress, adding that they will work harmoniously for the state’s growth.

Mimiko yesterday received more congratulatory messages.

South-West governors and traditional rulers in the zone also congratulated Mimiko on his victory at the Court of Appeal.

The geo-political political and traditional leaders, in a statement yesterday by the Co-ordinator, Council of the South-West Governors and Traditional Rulers, Mr. Alao Adedayo, wished the governor a successful tenure in office.

The council was happy that Mimiko allowed the judiciary to be the final arbiter in the election dispute.

“You saved the Yoruba nation, and the Ondo State people in particular, the agony and consequence of blood-letting which could have been the fall-out if you had chosen other means than the court of law to fight you cause,” it added.

Also yesterday, Mimiko announced the appointment of ace broadcaster, Mr. Ladi Akeredolu Ale, at the Director-General of the State Radio-vision Corporation (OSRC).

He replaces Mr. Soji Alakuro, who was appointed by the ousted Governor Olusegun Agagu.

Until his appointment, Ale was Controller of News, Channels Television, Lagos.

Mimiko said: “The recent experience in OSRC is unwholesome, people watched how public institution was used against the people, and we want to re-brand the corporation to compare favourably with any other across the world.”

He said because of the ugly experience of the past, his administration shopped around for competent hands to bring back the lost glory of the station, adding that Ale, who he described as a veteran of 20 years in broadcasting, has won several professional awards.

He said Ale has the mandate to re-engineer OSRC to be one of the best in the country.

Ale thanked Mimiko for not the appointment, adding that his appointment was a home-coming after sojourning outside the state for many years.

This is breaking news from The nation Newspaper:

    Mimiko dissolves Ondo councils

Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has dissolved the 18 local governments in the state.

A statement today by his Chief press Secretary (CPS) kolawole Olabisi said the Directors of Administration had been directed to take over the councils administration.

The directors were directed to ensure the safety of government properties.

This Governor sure knows what he is doing. Better to start on a clean slate, else these vestiges of the years of the locust will contaminate this new administration.

    Ride on People’s Governor
