Mimiko signs social development bill
ONDO State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko yesterday signed into law, a bill on the World Bank Assisted Community Social Development Project which he said would give legal backing to his administration’s quest to employ the bottom-up approach for its rural integration programme.
At a brief ceremony in his office where the signing of the bill, the first since the inception of his administration, was performed, Mimiko also lauded the swift and thorough manner with which the bill was passed by the state House of Assembly, noting that the lawmakers “are real partners in our quest to develop this state.”
The governor noted that despite the political differences between the two arms of government, the mainly Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Assembly has shown its preference to drop partisanship and work with the Labour Party (LP) executive, describing it as “a sign of good things to come.”
Mimiko told a small audience that included all the principal officers of the House including the Speaker, Taofeek Olawale Abdusalaam and senior government officials that the World Bank project had a significant relationship with his administration’s Quick Win projects aimed at involving communities in their developmental projects.
