Assassination threats force Mimiko’s aide into hiding
The violent crisis rocking Ondo State over the April elections deepened on Thursday, as one of the Special Assistants to the Labour Party governorship candidate in Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, Pius Osunyikanmi, went into hiding. Osunyikanmi who spoke with journalists in Akure, disclosed that several attempts had been made on his life and that of his family in the last few days, following power tussle in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government where he hails from.
This development came barely two days when an attempt was made on Dr. Mimiko’s life at Ogbagi Akoko, during his campaign tour of Akoko North West area of the state.
A similar attempt had been made penultimate Saturday in Oyoyo village, near Owo, when some suspected thugs alleged to be loyal to the PDP attacked his vehicle with guns and other dangerous weapons.
Osunyikanmi had been locked in a battle of supremacy with the chairman of the PDP local government council, Mr. Boye Adegbemisoye, a development which had made the duo guests of the Ondo State police command since 2003.
According to Osunyikanmi, who disclosed that he had already contacted his lawyer, Chief Yinka Akinyosoye, to write to the police about plans to eliminate him by political opponents.
