Labour Party rules out truce with Agagu. From Niyi Bello and Julius Alabi, Akure. Guardian

MOVES by prominent Ondo groups and indigenes to broker peace between Governor Olusegun Agagu and his Labour Party (LP) rival, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, over the April 14 polls, may be heading for the rocks.

Reason: The Labour Party yesterday insisted that it would not enter into any deal with Agagu to drop its petition against the governor’s victory in the April 14 election.

The Labour Party described the entire attempt to resolve whatever crisis that the PDP has foisted on the state without firstly securing justice as a futile one “as this matter is beyond the control of even our candidate. It is of a sacred mandate which cannot be relinquished because of a plate of porridge.”

According to Kolawole Olabisi, the LP Director of Press, “this latest attempt to subvert the wish of the people of Ondo State by the usurpers in their meeting with a crowd of lilliputian politicians cannot stand.”

According to him, Agagu’s action depicted a desperate man who would do anything, including cutting corners, to hang unto a mandate that was not given to him by the people of Ondo State who voted him out on April 14 having failed to give them the dividends of democracy despite the fact that he collected over N250 billion as allocation in his four years in office.

He said: “Since the announcement of the gubernatorial election results in Ondo State, Agagu has been busy telling the world why he won the election and not how he won it. He has thus spent more time campaigning after the election than before the election because of how he won the polls.

Meanwhile, there were strong indications at the weekend that the rest of the governorship candidates that participated in the polls have signified their intention to withdraw their petitions from the election petition tribunal.

It was learnt that a truce had been reached between the PDP and the other parties to allow peace to reign and douse the tension that had gripped the state since the conduct of the polls.

Several pre and post-election violence, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property worth millions of naira were witnessed in the state while the tension generated by the on-going litigation over electoral matters is a source of concern for stakeholders.

After a series of meetings, mediated by prominent non-partisan indigenes of the state and the body of traditional rulers on the need to calm frayed nerves, a working agreement has been reached between Agagu and almost all the gubernatorial candidates in the last polls.

The political parties and the candidates that have agreed to work with the incumbent include Olusola Agbesua of the Democratic Peoples Alliance (DPA), Bankole Oluwajana of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Ibukun Arifalo of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Pere Gamfo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Others are Dele Akingboye of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Ademola Adegoroye of the Action Congress (AC) and Akin Olowookere of the National Democratic Party (NDP) as well as failed aspirants on the platform of the other parties, including Dare Bada, Olu Adegboro and Wahab Adegbenro.

Sources at the Governor’s Office however disclosed that a high calibre team of traditional rulers and indigenes are already meeting separately with Agagu and Mimiko to reach a truce.

A source said: “The combat nature of the LP is standing on the way of quick reconciliation but we are sure that we will resolve the crisis very soon. We have already got the assurance that they are willing to allow peace to reign.”

Similarly, about three political parties in Ondo State have dissociated themselves from the last Thursday parley with Agagu by their governorship candidates. The (AD) governorship candidate, Mr. Bankole Oluwajana, has been expelled from the party due to the romance with the PDP in the state.

The National Chairman of Democratic Peoples Alliance (DPA), Chief Olu Falae who spoke on the parley, described it as a mere jamboree where the money of the tax-payers of the state are being wasted on making merriment.

Also, a chieftain of the Action Congress (AC) and governorship aspirant in the state, Dr. Tunji Abayomi, said the party has nothing to do with the parley as it was looking for a way to tackle the issue and take a disciplinary action over the involvement of Ademola Adegoroye.

Abayomi, who is currently defending the party at the tribunal, said: “AC would not withdraw its petition from the tribunal as orchestrated by Adegoroye in the parley”, saying that “though anybody has the right to join any party but it was not possible to be in two parties at a time. Adegoroye could not be in AC and at the same time be romancing with PDP.”

What else do I want to add that has not be mentioned. Rikisi ti o ba pa awon enia po, na lo ma tu won ka. Why are the peacemakers not campaigning that Agagu relinquishes someone else’s stolen mandate? If they want peace truth and justice to really reign? How much money would make a father or mother encourage the household to live on lies? Agagu is the one foistering disruption. He should not have allowed OBJ to use him to usurp power. ITs not too late. Agagu can still confess and be saved by God. If he reallt loves the people, he could go on exile and allow peace to return to Ondo state (and remember to take his PDP thugs, looters and all with him). There is room enough for them all on OBJ’s farm. Birds of the same feathers should flock together. OBJ has done his evil work, we do not need to continue with his CHARADE! I trust our man Mimiko and the LP stalwarts. They will not stoop for any devil or dine with satan. They are ministers of the Lord and with God on our side, IYANU GO HAPPEN IN ONDO STATE. The truth will forever be told, MIMIKO IS THE PEOPLES ELECTED GOVERNOR IN ONDO STATE AND NOT AGAGU, IF ANYONE SHOULD BEG THE OTHER AGAGU SHOULD ASK FOR MIMIKO’S FORGIVENESS. LET US BE HONEST IN OUR DEALINGS O, EYIN BABA WA. God is the highest authority in this matter.

LABOUR PARTY AND MIMIKO IN ONDO STATE ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING. WE MUST WAKE UP TO THE TRUTH. NOT EVERYONE CAN BECOME CAIN WHO FOR A MORSEL OF FOOD LOST SOLD HIS BIRTHRIGHT AND LOST HIS BLESSINGS. N250 BILLION ALLOCATION IN FOUR YEARS IN ONDO STATE. HONESTLY WHAT DID ONDO STATE REALLY GAIN FOR THIS? But on the other hand what did Agagu, his family and friends gain? If not for so called Governorship immunity, you would have learnt the truth about Agagu. So how many people were surprised when after the loss of Presidential immunity, the country is told that Obasanjo started out with N20,000 or even let us say N30,000 and now owns more than half the whole wealth of Nigeria combined and millions, billions and trillions everywhere all over the world in 8 years in office! And on leaving left Nigeria with nothing to be proud of? Ondo state has suffered enough already. If the elders dont mind the people suffering and dying while they become more and more comfortable, haba some others do and this is why that Mandate must be restored to the people’s choice, MIMIKO. Anambra transition was smooth and safe when Yaradua became involved in letting truth and justice prevail. There will be no bloodshed in Ondo state by the grace of God when the mandate is restored to Mimiko, there will be a mass exodus o evil intent people. Even the host of angels will become involved in the restoration and there will be progress, abundance, peace and worthy living in Ondo State with MIMIKO as governor. One question is WHAT IS AGAGU AFRAID OF? IF HE WON THE APRIL POLLS HE SHOULD BE ENCOURAGING LABOUR PARTY AND MIMIKO TO LET THE WHOLE WORLD SEE HOW HE WON AS DECLARED. But we know the truth dont we?

This is part of the revelations that, I had earlier said would come out. If, he had won the election that, INEC claimed he won, why is he, doing this. So he wants to prevaricate the truth and avoid, the inevitable, which will be a big shame for him till the end. No way! The only saving grace for him, now is to surrender the stolen mandate.

Even when the former resident Electoral commissioner that conducted the election in Ondo State, had confessed at the Redemption camp.

These people, know nothing, their shame and end his immenent. His government is like a house builth with saliva that would be swept down by the early moring dew.

WHY IS THE ONGOING TRIBUNAL BUSSINESS A PROBLEM?
THE ELECTION MATERIALS MUST BE EXAMINED AND IF ANYBODY PREVENTS THIS EXERCISE FROM HAPPENING THEY SHOULD BE ARRESTED. I STRONGLY BELEIVE THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE IN ASSURING THAT THIS EXERCISE MOVES FORWARD WITHOUT ANY HINDERANCE FROM ANY QUARTERS. THAT IS WHY I MENTIONED BEFORE THAT NOBODY SHOULD EVER BE SWORN IN BEFORE ALL ELECTIONS MATTERS ARE RESOLVED. THE CURRENT PRACTICE OF SWEARING IN LOOTERS BEFORE RESOLVING ELECTION MATTERS IS TOO BACKWARD. IT IS ALSO A REASON FOR SOME OF THE PROBLEMS IN MOST STATES. LOOK AT OYO STATE AKALA AND HIS AMALA GODFATHER OF POLICTICS. I DON’T SEE HOW A CONSTITUTIONAL EXERCISE SHOULD BE A PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE UNLESS THE PROBLEM IS INVOKED BY AGAGU.

Tribunal refuses to quash Mimiko’s petition against Agagu

    By Dayo Johnson

AKURE — THE Justice G.M. Nabaruma Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure, yesterday dismissed application by Governor Olusegun Agagu of Ondo State asking it to quash the petition of the Labour Party governorship candidate Dr. Olusegun Mimiko over the election.

It also fixed October 23 and 24 for definite hearing of Mimiko’s petition, asking the tribunal to nullify the result of the April 14 governorship polls as declared by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) in the state.

The governor had through his counsel, Lateef Fagbemi SAN prayed the tribunal to decline jurisdiction on the petition.
Agagu, in his preliminary objection asked the tribunal to dismiss Mimiko’s petition for non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2006, this he said made the tribunal to lack jurisdiction to entertain it.

Agagu said that Mimiko in his petition did not join necessary parties and that the petitioner made specific allegation against electoral officers without joining them as parties in the petition.

Election petition tribunal sitting in Akure, on Monday, threw out the application of the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, praying the tribunal to quash the petition of the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, over the election.

Besides, the tribunal fixed October 23 and 24 for definite hearing of Mimiko’s petition, praying the tribunal to nullify the result of the April 14 governorship polls as declared by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).

Agagu, through his counsel, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), in the application prayed the tribunal to decline jurisdiction on the petition.

The governor preliminary objection asked the tribunal to dismiss Mimiko’s petition for non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2006. This, he said, made the tribunal to lack jurisdiction to entertain it.
He added that Mimiko, in his petition, did not join necessary parties and that the petitioner made specific allegations against electoral officers without joining them as parties in the petition.
The counsel also said the petition should be quashed as it was incompetent since any averment complaining about the conduct of any electoral officer, who is not a party to the petition, is liable to be struck out.

Fagbemi asked the tribunal to delete the names of 15th to 18th respondents, who are the Nigeria Police and other security agents who helped to supervise the election, from the petition because they were not necessary parties and should not be joined.

But counsel to the LP candidate, Mr. Olumide Ayeni, told the five-man tribunal that the application was incompetent since the first respondent who filed the application had joined issues with the petition.
Ayeni argued that the petition had been vitiated by the joining of the officials of INEC, who were principals of the people whose conduct were complained of in the petition.

The triunal, led by Justice G.M. Nabaruma, while ruling on the petition held that since the petitioner had joined those he wanted to rely on as witnesses and they are agents of INEC, the petition could not be dismissed on that ground.
On the constitutionality of the petition, Justice Nabaruma said it was too early in the day to adjudicate on that.
The tribunal, which refused to delete the list of the security officers that participated in the election from the petition, held that the petitioner had complained about the conduct of these officials and they should be made to defend themselves.

On whether or not the relief sought by the petitioner could be granted, the tribunal held that it had powers under the electoral act to adjudicate on the relief sought by the petitioner.
In the report of the pre-trial conference read by Nabaruma, he said the tribunal had streamlined the number of witnesses to be called during the proceeding.

According to him, Mimiko would call 30 witnesses to testify on the conduct of the election, Agagu would call 50 witnesses, the PDP would be allowed to invite 20 witnesses, the police seven and the INEC six witnesses.

The party said a four-man gang on Monday night ransacked the house of the former VC, carting away vital documents and other valuables in a five-hour operation. The armed men subjected the household to a harrowing ordeal.

Olufemi is the younger brother of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Ondo State in the last general elections.

The party, in a statement by its Director of Press, Mr Kolawole Olabisi, regretted that the attack came barely two weeks after it raised an alarm over plans by Governor Olusegun Agagu’s government to attack the homes of LP candidate and his siblings.

“Providence, perhaps, saved the younger Mimiko from possible harm as he had travelled out of Ondo State that Monday morning leaving his children, wife, maid and a security guard behind,” the party said.

The former VC’s wife, according to LP, said the intruders gained entrance into the compound at 10pm, tried to get the guard to lure her out of the main building and when this failed, they attempted to bluff their way inside by pretending to be policemen on a routine visit.

“They were shouting madam open the door, we are police officers. When it dawned on them that I will not open the door, they forced the window and entered.

“They beat my maid, attempted to rape her and when she resisted, they inflicted her with machete cuts on the head. They then went berserk, ransacking the whole place, carting away documents and asking for money.

“They specifically asked us to surrender the remaining part of the money with which we run the campaign against Agagu to them. They also asked us to bring out guns and I told them that my husband is not a politician but an academic and that we don’t own guns.

“It was a harrowing ordeal. They took cash, my trinkets, handsets and a lot of things that I can’t recollect now,” she was quoted

As I said in my earlier post, God will continue to protect His own. We thank God for the lives of Prof and Mrs Mimiko and are sorry about the two wounded people, while thanking God for their lives, for it could have been worse.

For these perpetrators of evil, God will deal with them big time. They will soon make the biggest mistake of their lives for if they think denials at all times is what will save them, then they do not know God. GOD WILL GET RID OF THEM ALL IN ONDO STATE. For as the truth about the unholy alliance of Agagu and the Militants was made public so also will all these hired men turn on Agagu, God’s timing will be perfect for this. Ida Ahun lo ma pa ahun loruko Jesu.

Be vigilant oh, everybody and leave nothing to chance. Oju ni alakan fi nso ori. WE ALL WANT TO BE ALIVE TO CELEBRATE MIMIKO’S VICTORY TOGETHER. God bless us all.

    Thugs are talking
    EDITORIAL
    Friday, September 21, 2007
SUSPICIONS about the tardiness around last April’s elections are moving into the realm of truth as more participants in the elections have started confessing their roles. Thugs, who worked with politicians under different names, are resorting to kidnapping of relations of the politicians, as they press for the fulfillment of promises they claim their sponsors made.

The Electoral Act 2006 frowns at a role, any role, for thugs in elections.

Section of the Act prescribes penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment for offenders. Section 222 of the 1999 Constitution forbids the training or organisation of any groups to intimidate others at elections. These provisions are observed mainly in breach as recent events have confirmed.

In Ondo State, thugs kidnapped eight chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The thugs demanded N500 million as their reward for aiding the party’s victory in the elections. The chiefs regained their freedom, but the terms of their release remain secret.

Mr. Mike Okiro, acting Inspector General of Police, paraded two gangs in Abuja, accused of attempted kidnap of parents of politicians they helped to power. Their grouse was their unmet expectations.

A gang leader, Nkechi Enemuoh, reportedly threatened Dimobi Joseph of the Anambra State House of Assembly, on telephone. She wanted N5 million or Joseph’s parents would be killed. Detectives foiled their bid. A defiant Nkechi, according to Mr. Okiro, said, “she was not paid for the services she rendered to the complainant during the 2007 election.”

Days to the swearing in of Chief Celestine Omehia, as Governor of Rivers State, some gunmen abducted his mother. She was released after negotiations. In Akasa, Bayelsa State, armed men on August 14, kidnapped the aged mother of Yousuo Amalanyo of the State House of Assembly. Police’s prompt intervention led to the arrest of Michael Kumosouyo, Hero Abraham and Koshua Julius.

Earlier the mother of the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly was kidnapped. Before then, the son of a female legislator was kidnapped in Rivers State. In each case, the criminals demanded a ransom.

While examining the new spates of politically motivated kidnaps, it is easy to overlook the illegal means that politicians deploy in their bid for power. The kidnappers become the only criminals. While the politicians who violate the Constitution and the Electoral Act are treated as victims – they are both guilty parties. It is like giving bribes, where both the giver and receiver and guilty.

In proven cases of criminal conduct, the thugs should be tried for kidnapping, and the politicians for contravening laws on campaigns and politicking. If a closer interpretation of the law takes care of both parties, there would be fewer cases of these kidnaps and more importantly, the electoral process that produce the politicians, would then have been subjected to the implications and spirit of the laws that are meant to breathe sanity into elections, and life after the polls.

Now it is count down to 23rd 7 24th October for God will do a new thing in Ondo State and shame the devil in our midst for the Mandate which was uncannily “borrowed” from the authentic Governor of Ondo State Dr Segun Mimiko will be restored to its authentic owner.

Please keep on praying for the best and for peace in Ondo State. God will show all powerless powers that He is the only decider of our fate. Ondo State has been fooled and conned for too long. All of a sudden after 4 years in office, Agagu is unleashing a charade of empty promises of doing this and that which we all know are gimmicks and evil strategies to buy the people’s support but this ploy will fail, for the people of Ondo State are not fools.

Dr Mimiko, the Lord Jehovah is your strength and stay and a very present help in trouble. God will protect, bless, guide and restore you back to your rightful position as Governor on Ondo State and even the gates of hell shall not prevail.

    IN GOD WE TRUST.

Supreme Court annuls (s)election of Celestine Omehia as Rivers State governor

Satff, (BBC) – Nigeria’s Supreme Court has annulled April’s election of the governor of oil-rich, violence-prone Rivers State. The court said current Governor Celestine Omehia had not been the legitimate PDP candidate. It ruled that the post should go to Rotimi Amaechi, who won the party’s primaries, but was dropped on the eve of voting because of graft allegations.

Ondo: PDP jittery, prepares for ‘eventuality’
    From Niyi Bello, Akure

THE camp of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has been enveloped in worry, following the unfolding drama at the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure. The confidence of the ruling party that the status quo will remain is waning by the day and the PDP-led State government has gone back to the drawing board to prepare for “any eventuality.”

The talk among the party’s leadership is now centred on what has been termed “the worst scenario” and the strategy to be employed to curtail it in a way that the PDP would remain relevant in the state’s political turf.

“The worst scenario” is taken to mean the cancellation of the April 14 exercise by the tribunal and the conduct of fresh elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Olusegun Mimiko, the Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate and the main challenger to PDP declared victory, had in his petition prayed the tribunal to either declare him as the winner of the polls or order fresh elections.

He had hinged his submissions on the ground that no elections took place in the Southern Senatorial district, where the state governor and PDP candidate, Dr. Olusegun Agagu hails from. He also argues that with the cancellation of the returns from four councils in the area, he would have scored the majority of lawful votes cast in the governorship polls in the state.

In the second leg of Mimiko’s petition, he attempted to show that the elections were marred by massive rigging and other irregularities in some other areas of the states. Thus, in the event that he could not be declared the outright winner, fresh polls should be ordered in the state. The PDP while filing a reply to the petition had initially argued, with a list of about twenty thousand INEC ad-hoc staff as witnesses, that the elections was free and fair and without any unpleasant occurrence on polls day.

However fresh facts about the alleged unwholesome conduct of the polls emerged. That was when the LP got leave of the tribunal to scrutinise materials used for the exercise. The PDP, aware that its line of argument may be defeated and that Mimiko’s first leg of prayer may be granted, changed tactics. The party alleged that the LP was also culpable on rigging in the areas where it won.

According to the results declared by the electoral body, Mimiko, apart from winning almost all the major cities, got majority votes in the six councils in the Central Senatorial District. Agagu, on the other hand, won in the South while the two gladiators shared, almost on equal basis, the votes from the North with Agagu having a slight edge.

The PDP strategy, according to findings, was to lay the ground for the emergence of “the worst scenario.” The state government has already begun preparation for the possibility of an election re-run. Fresh campaigns are being aired on daily basis on the state-owned Radio and Television stations.

And to complement this effort, the State Ministry of Information and Orientation had lined up PDP leaders and government officials to feature on media programmes to articulate the achievements of the party and the state government to the people. This was exactly the case during the campaign period preceding the last polls.

Agagu who told The Guardian in an interview that he wished “that the tribunal people should park their load and leave us politicians to sort out our differences” is also said to be resting. He is wooing traditional rulers and community leaders on the need to stabilise the polity by allowing the status quo to remain. It was also gathered that part of the strategy is the olive branch that was extended to the non-LP losers to prevent the opposition from coming together. This is to widen the support base of the ruling party before the new polls.

Six former governorship candidates, who altogether scored less than 8 percent of the total votes cast in the disputed elections, have been brought on board the PDP administration. Some of them and their nominees had got appointments. Political observers however believe that that particular strategy may not have achieved the desired goal. The PDP dealt only with the gubernatorial candidates of these parties, leaving their supporters, majority of who have found their way into the LP. To underscore the failure of this strategy, the parties have expelled their governorship candidates and formed an alliance of opposition with a view to have a common interest in the unfolding political events with the LP as the arrowhead.

The plan to conduct the local government elections in December, despite protests from the opposition, is also seen as a tactic by the ruling party to further entrench itself before the expected polls. A 10-member opposition in the State Assembly and the state chapter of the Action Congress (AC) is challenging the plan at an Akure State High Court and the Federal High Court. They want the state government should wait until after the tribunal judgement. The PDP would use all the ammunitions in its arsenal, including the federal coercive forces that it allegedly used in the last exercise, to win the re-run.

But with the cancellation of the elections in Kogi and Kebbi which involved an in-law of the new PDP leader, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, a new dimension has been introduced on the scene. It has raised hope of the opposition that in case of re-election, it may not have to contend with an Abuja Force as a factor in the fresh exercise.

With this new reality, the opposition seems to have been more strengthened. This optimism seemed to have been buoyed by events at the on-going litigation where the LP legal team, judging by the number of rulings in its favour, appears to be heading for victory over the “Allied Forces” of Agagu, PDP, INEC and the Police. Altogether, they have paraded up to six Senior Advocates since the beginning of proceedings.

Already, the five-member tribunal has thrown out all the defences of the PDP, INEC and the Police in their reply to the Mimiko petition. A substantial part of Agagu’s own defence has also been rejected.

The opposition is reaching series of alignments and realignment. Unlike the pre-April polls, the opposition is now more united in their new- found collaboration, which seemed to have been cemented by their experience at the last exercise. The opposition group is also taking advantage of the on-going crisis rocking the PDP over the selection of candidates for the planned council polls by poaching aggrieved members from the ruling party. Only last week, hundreds of former PDP members in Akure North and South local councils led by former unionist, Biodun Falohun, decamped to the LP. The ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Mimiko Campaign Organisation, which is once again brimming with activities after a short post-election lull.

The brightly-coloured 18-seater campaign buses of the LP candidate, which were withdrawn from the streets in the wake of the announcement of the last election, are now back. His supporters are daily thronging the tribunal venue with chants of “Da Pada”, a Yoruba slogan which mean “return the mandate.” Mimiko, who has been out of public glare for sometime, is however believed to be the binding factor of the new political movement in the state. Under this tensed political situation, meanings are being read into every move made by the government. In the discharge of its duties, the opposition parties are weaving controversies around governance.

A seemingly genuine intention of the state government to establish a Joint Military and Police Task Force to stem the rising crime wave was described by the LP as “a way by the PDP government to raise an illegal coercive force to intimidate the people.” “The PDP is already planning to raise an army to once again subvert the wish of the people in case of a fresh poll,” they alleged.

When some government employees were found to have joined the service with fake certificates and were promptly sacked, the LP said the PDP government had started a “systematic mass sack to further impoverish our people.”

But the PDP is optimistic that come what may, it was still going to win the governorship elections in the state. Adeyemi Adedipe, the Publicity Secretary of Agagu Campaign Organisation said: “we won the last polls not because of any external influence, we are going to win because our people are still here.”

A section of the PDP, however, believes that there will not be any election re-run. “There is no basis for any cancellation because we won fair and square,” they said.

And Ondo State waits again and pray and pray. Further hearing is slated for tomorrow we have been advised. Less than 24 hours to go. May the Lord Jehovah shine his light of truth into the hearts of men and especially members of the Judiciary. We have no fear for in God we trust. The truth that Mimiko won the April Polls hands down and was cheated out of his office by the evil combination of OBJ, Ondo PDP, Agagu and their cohorts will prevail. We all join hands, minds and hearts in wishing Dr Mimiko the very best. He has been so gallant and so Godly in his patient quest for the truth.

IN ONDO STATE, THE STORY OF UNPRINCIPLED ELECTIONS CONTINUES. PLEASE READ ON FOR THERE IS A LOT SAID ABOUT THE ONDO STATE SAGA:

“Protests as PDP sweeps council polls
By Bayo Ohu (Lagos), Lawrence Njoku (Enugu), Charles Coffie Gyamfi (Abeokuta), Niyi Bello, Julius Alabi (Akure), Abiodun Fanoro (Lagos),
Tunji Omofoye (Oshogbo) and Kelechi Okoronkwo (Abuja)

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continued with its winning streak as some state electoral bodies released the results of last Saturday local council polls.

In Osun State, the party won all the seats in the 30 local councils. It repeated the same feat in Ogun State where it clinched all the chairmanship and 236 councillorship positions in the 20 local councils.

The situation was the same in Ondo and Enugu states. For the first time in Ondo’s political history, the PDP won all the 18 chairmanship and 201 councillorship offices. It also won 15 of the 16 chairmanship slots in Enugu State.

The Action Congress (AC) and the Labour Party (LP), which have rejected the results, described the exercise as fraud on Nigerians.

. Already, the LP in Ondo State has declared its intention to contest the outcome of the elections.

The National Secretariat of the AC, which decried the violence that trailed the election, said it was a ploy by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to plunge Nigerians into chaos.

On his part, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, called for the cancellation of the election.

Atiku through his media aide, Garba Shehu, said that there was no council election in the country.

He said: “The elections should be cancelled. That’s Atiku’s stand. There cannot be a credible election in the country when the electoral body has not been properly organised to meet the demands of democracy.”

The chairman of the Enugu State Independent National Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), Mr. Abel Nwobodo, who announced the results yesterday afternoon, said that of the 17 local councils of the state, the PDP won in 15, while the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) won in the Udenu Local Council.

He added that the result for Igboeze North Local Council was still being expected as at the time of filing this report.

But in a sharp contrast, the Labour Party, which is one of the opposition parties that participated in the election, disputed the outcome of the exercise and called for the cancellation of results in six councils.

It listed the councils as: Igboeze South, Nsukka, Enugu South, Enugu North, Enugu East and Igboetiti, where according to the party, elections did not take place due to the late arrival of materials and the absence of results sheets.

Nwobodo, who hailed the “peaceful conduct of the exercise, said that of the 260 councillorship seats, the PDP won 245 seats, ANPP won in nine, while the United Nigeria People’s Party (UNPP) got one.

He added that five councillorship seats’ results were still being awaited, expressing the hope that, the results would be accepted by all the parties involved in the exercise.

The LP through its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Vincent Obeta, alleged that, a bus load of thugs led by a House of Representatives member snatched the electoral materials meant for Igboese South Local Council.

The Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Chief Tunji Fadairo (SAN), who announced the results yesterday in Abeokuta, praised the parties’ peaceful manner the supporters comported themselves during and after the election.

Nine of the 19 registered political parties boycotted the election. This led to a poor turn out.

The opposition parties described the election as a charade, stating that the results couldn’t have been different “since only PDP members participated in the election.”

The state Chairman of the AC, Alhaji Tajudeen Bello told reporters that “what happened was a farce, there was no election. Did you see voters? Were there even Electoral officers at most of the polling booths?”

The ANPP Chairman, Chief Bashiru Fadayiro, said since the opposition parties were not involved, money spent to organize the election was a waste of the tax payers’ money.

For Alhaji Adegbenga Kaka, former deputy governor of the state, who was also a governorship candidate in the last April election, the election was very peaceful throughout the state. The Director of Information of OGSIEC, Mr. Abiodun Awere, said that the commission would address a press Conference today to release the detailed result.

AC National Publicity Secretary Lai Mohammed told The Guardian yesterday in Abuja that the loss of lives recorded during the polls could have been averted had INEC listened to the party.

Mohammed said that INEC could not expect peaceful elections when its “dependence and corrupt” composition had not been rectified. He insisted that there was no council election anywhere in the country.

Mohammed also said that INEC’s voters’ register was not comprehensive and that the schedule for the council election was untimely.

In Oyo State, about five persons were reportedly shot at Igboora, headquarters of Ibarapa Central Local Council by thugs loyal to PDP.

Edo State reportedly witnessed arson, violence, sporadic shootings with the secretariats of the state electoral commission in Abudu Okada, Afuze, Iguobazuwa, Igueben razed down by frustrated voters. There was also sporadic shooting in Jathau in Etsako West Local Council.

Mohammed said: “We sympathise with the families and friends of the INEC’s victims and we still state unequivocally that Nigeria has not conducted local council elections anywhere.”

The election was also boycotted by the opposition parties in Ondo State.

An Akure High Court had restrained the state electoral body from conducting the polls pending the determination of a suit brought before it by the 10-member opposition lawmakers in the State House of Assembly.

The election however went as scheduled but with mass boycott by residents of the state who, did not show up at polling units.

Consequently, the PDP chairmanship candidates in six councils of Ondo East and West, Akure North, Irele and Ose were returned unopposed. In a curious twist; their challengers were scored zero votes.

In Akoko South East and Ese-Odo, the closest rivals to the PDP scored less than one hundred votes in an exercise where the least recorded for the ruling party was 13,378.

Chairman of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), Jones Ogunmusire, who announced the results in his office yesterday, said that the exercise was very successful.

He, however, announced the cancellation of the exercise in two wards in Odigbo and Akure North for what he referred to as intra-party squabbles within the PDP over the choice of candidates.

The LP governorship candidate in the last election, Dr Olusegun Mimiko commended the people of the state for boycotting the election.

He said by their action, the people had shown that they had respect for the rule of law.

Mimiko who spoke through his Media Assistant, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi, stated that by boycotting the election because of a court order, their apathy was a silent protest against daylight robbery by the Olusegun Agagu administration.

His words: “I want to salute the people of Ondo State for their steadfastness and their resilience in the last six months following the daylight robbery in which the mandate given to us was stolen in daylight.

“Today, you all stayed at home and shunned this illegal and futile exercise being carried out by Agagu and his co-travellers. All other political parties in the state called for a boycott of this charade due to a subsisting court order restraining ODIEC, its privies and agents from going ahead with the local government poll.

“But because Agagu knows that he would not be able to win a single vote in a free and fair election, he decided to go ahead and put in place this kangaroo election,” Olabisi said.

The state LP chairman, Dr. Olaiya Oni told The Guardian yesterday, that the party had asked its lawyer to file a suit against the election.

In a reaction, the state Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Mobilisation, Eddy Olafeso denied that the election was conducted in defiance of court order. Olafeso stated that there was no court order stopping the election.

He explained that the only court decision in respect of the election was against some members of the state electoral commission, who according to him had resigned and were replaced by new ones.

In Oyo State, opinions remained divided yesterday on the conduct of the elections, which was marred by violence, boycott and malpractices.

While Governor Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala hailed the peaceful conduct of the election which he described as hitch-free, former deputy governor of the state, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, citing the malpractices in Iseyin Local Council, declared that the exercise was not free and fair.

Alao-Akala, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Public Communications, Dotun Oyelade praised the people for their orderly conduct, saying that the all-inclusive procedure adopted by the State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) for its preparation was largely responsible for the credible outcome of the polling.

He said: “The local council polls that took place on Saturday is the most credible in Oyo State so far because OYSIEC actively engaged all stakeholders including political party representatives in all the plans leading to the election.

“Apart from the enthusiastic involvement of the masses of the people, I will also praise the total commitment and diligence of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies who ensure that the election was peaceful even at their own personal inconveniencies.”

He said: “Besides, the returning officer for Ado-Awaye and its environs refused to collate and announce the result on the spot, but decided to move the collation to Iseyin where he and the leaders of the PDP worked in tandem to manipulate the results in favour of the ruling party.”

The two main opposition parties, the AC and the ANPP had on Friday announced their decision to boycot the election, adducing insecurity and failure by the State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) to give parties adequate notice before the election as the reasons for their action.

However in the results released by OSSIEC yesterday, votes were recorded for the AC in all the 30 councils while the ANPP also had some votes in three council.

The AC, in a swift reaction, denied participation in the election, saying votes recorded for the party remained in the imagination of the organisers.

The election was however very peaceful.

The chairman of OSSIEC, Justice Adedotun Sijuwade who announced the results lauded the stakeholders and the public for allowing the polls to hold in “an atmosphere devoid of violence.”

  19. T.Aon 22 Jun 2008 at 8:01 am

I am quite suspicious of the piecemeal judgements handed out by the tribunal sitting in Ondo State. Although on the whole the PDP have lost in the judgements. Could the tribunal decide in the end to go with the incumbent based on the idea that the majority of the votes were legitimate, apart from the ones it had found to be in favour of the Labout Party or any other opposition party?
Why not just declare the entire verdict in one go and then go on to expantiate or justify its decision by highlighting the various inconsistencies it found in arriving at its final verdict. I think we should be vey worried.

Well Well Well, can someone please tell me why a “Peace Rally” is being sponsored to the tune of 500million in a state that has remained peaceful and calm since April 2007 while awaiting a just verdict of truth. Mimiko has for over 14 months called for peace while he follows the right path of justice. Now the end is near at hand for Agagu, he wants to throw Ondo State into disarray. Is this the marks of a true leader or that of a selfish, desperate, violent and ungodly person? The people of Ondo State are not fools. The Police should ban this rally and the Tribunal should not be intimidated. All in all PDP in Ondo State are showing their true colour day in day out. God will judge and all attempts to subvert the course of justice in Ondo State will backfire. Ida Ahun lo ma pa ahun, ni oruko Jesu. We are not worried. No one can turn against God and live. Ondo peace rally: It’s a ploy to deceive public – LP
    By Femi Makinde
    Published: Monday, 23 Jun 2008
The Labour Party in Ondo State has alleged that the “peace rally” slated to hold in Akure on Tuesday, is a ploy by Governor Olusegun Agagu to pressurise members of the election petitions tribunal into giving him a favourable judgment.

The Director of Press, LP, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi, made this allegation in a statement made available to journalists in Akure on Sunday.

But Agagu has denied the allegation. The governor, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi, said that the LP’s allegation was a plan to cover up its plan to cause violence in the state.

Although the ‘peace rally’ is organised by the state House of Assembly, Olabisi said that Agagu had released N500m for the “three million man-march” that according to him, would be attended by the Peoples Democratic Party governors from the South West zone.

Olabisi said, “All the 18 local government chairmen had been given N20m each to mobilise at least 25,000 people each.

“They are also to kit their thugs with Ankara fabrics, arm them and bring them to Akure as from Tuesday where they will be asked to take over the city chanting: ‘No Agagu, no peace; allow Agagu to complete his term; Agagu is our man; no vacancy till 2011 in Alagbaka’, among others.”

The LP called on the security agencies in the state to be aware of the new plan by the governor to unleash terror on the people of the state under the guise of a ‘peace rally’.

However, the governor’s aide said that this allegation was a “figment of the LP’s chieftains’ imagination.”

According to Olawolabo, Agagu does not have to pressurise the tribunal members because he has defended himself satisfactorily before the panel.

He added that the burden of proof was on the LP governorship candidate, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, who filed the petition.

“They are the ones who have to impress the tribunal they are the petitioner. We have proved to the tribunal that we won and won convincingly,” he said.

He stated that the governor was confident of victory whenever the judgment would be delivered.

The CPS also said that security operatives in the state had been notified about the LP’s plan to import thugs into the state to cause havoc on PDP chieftains and supporters.

    ‘Mimiko seeks reconciliation with Agagu’
    Written by Dayo Johnson
    Wednesday, 25 June 2008
    .It’s not true—LP

THE Ondo State Government yesterday alleged that the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has been sending emissaries to Governor Olusegun Agagu for a soft-landing ahead of the judgment on the state Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi, claimed that the emissaries were out to mend fences and reconcile the governor with the LP candidate who challenged his victory at the tribunal.

But Dr. Mimiko, in a swift reaction, denied the allegation, describing it as “a yarn that could only come from a demented mind.”

According to Olowolabi, “In what appears to be a desperate bid to soften the ground for Mimiko before the judgment day, the Alagbaka Governor’s Office and the Government House, residence of Dr Agagu, had been inundated with secret nocturnal calls and visits from emissaries of the LP candidate.

“The visits and calls, which have intensified in the last one week, have so far not yielded any positive result for the group as Agagu is taking his time to address the requests. Though the governor is not opposed to any genuine effort that would bring peace and progress to Ondo State, Agagu believes the call by Mimiko to mend fences should not be treated in a hurry.”

Reacting on behalf of Mimiko, however, the spokesman of the Labour Party, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi, said the wild allegation coming from the stable of one of the supposedly foremost geologists in the nation was unfortunate and a pointer to the type of person he really is.

“How, for God’s sake can a man who won an election in Ondo State on April 14, 2007 before it was stolen in a brazen manner in broad daylight and who has gone to court to seek the retrieval of his stolen mandate be linked with the purported move to beg a man whom he defeated and who had done almost everything to dissuade him from contesting his (Agagu’s) stolen mandate at the tribunal?

“This is one of the tales by moonlight that has become the hallmark of the Agagu’s administration in Ondo State. He is our own Robert Mugabe in Ondo State who has refused to bow out when the ovation is loudest,” he said.

  27. omotayloron 25 Jun 2008 at 8:52 am

OUR EXCELLENCY DR MIMIKO HAS CAPTURED THE AGAGU MIND RIGHT WHEN HE SAID:

But Dr. Mimiko, in a swift reaction, denied the allegation, describing it as “a yarn that could only come from a demented mind.”

AGAGU AND HIS ONDO PDP MINDS ARE SURELY DEMENTED, PLAGUED BY EVIL SPRITS, THE TYPE THAT TORMENTED KING SAUL FOR SO LONG BEORE HIS INGLORIOUS EXIT FROM POWER. THE BIBLICAL STORY OF DAVID AND SAUL IS BEING REPLICATED HERE.

MORNING SHOWS THE DAY. WE AWAIT THE JUDGEMENT. THESE UNFOUNDED STORIES JUST BRINGS TO LIGHT MORE AND MORE THE IMMATURE AND DEBASED MINDS OF THE AGAGU AMP.

When will the Agagu camp realize this strategy of disinformation is not working, will not wok and can not work?

This latest media spin is just a confirmation of how desperate the Agagu/PDP is now following their catastrophic loss at the tribunal last week.

IF the PDP could lose 5 seats in one week, why would the LP want to come back into their fold?

The people they hope to confuse are not fool, and can not be confused. The confusion lies with Agagu and his goons!

Where are the youths of ONDO? Start rejoicing because God has answered your prayer. The exit of Agagu will bring Grothw to the youth of the state. Welcome to a new dawn. Emissaries: Mimiko accuses Agagu of lying
    By Femi Makinde, Akure
    Published: Thursday, 26 Jun 2008
The Labour Party governorship candidate in Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has denied the claims by the state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, that he is sending emissaries to him ahead of the determination of his petition at the election tribunal.

    File
    Mimiko

Mimiko, who spoke to our correspondent on Wednesday through the LP’s Director of Press, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi, said that the claims had portrayed the governor and his aides as liars.

He said, “Agagu’s claim is untrue. The story was fabricated; it was a face-saving tactics and highly ridiculous.

Agagu had on Tuesday alleged in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi, that Mimiko had been sending emissaries to him so that he could be given a ‘soft landing” after the determination of his petition.

Olabisi said, “The people of the state are aware of who should be sending emissaries by now. The tribunals have sacked nine out of the lawmakers imposed on the people by Agagu and the Peoples Democratic Party.

“The elections of all our lawmakers have been upheld by the same tribunals, so tell me, who is jittery?”

The LP spokesman said that Mimiko was not interested in joining the PDP and had not sent anybody to Agagu.

He urged the party’s supporters to ignore such claim. Olabisi said that Mimiko was not ready to trade his mandate, which he said, “Agagu stole at gunpoint during April 14, 2007 poll with all the diamond in the world.”

He described the claim as “one of the tales by moonlight that has become the hallmark of the Agagu’s administration in Ondo State.”

  32. omotayloron 26 Jun 2008 at 2:08 pm

Soon and very soon. We await the greatest verdict that would rewrite the history books, at least in Ondo State. Peace

  33. omotayloron 26 Jun 2008 at 2:20 pm

And dont we just know it, that Mimiko has in integrity and resilience fought and won the battle for growth, stability and purposeful governance in Ondo State? Mimiko is a household name all over Nigeria, except in the camp of looters and losers. Mimiko’s vision for Ondo State remains intact and this vision would soon become reality, for Ondo State weeping has tarried with over four year of Agagu misadministration, but Joy now cometh in the morning of the Tribunal giving the only just and true verdict and Mimiko resuming office in Alagbaka to restore Ondo State. Oh by the way Governor Fashola of Lagos State, you will soon have more than a running mate in achievement oriented governance. This will however be good news for both Lagos State and Ondo State. Proper leadership skills will be the news of the day from now on. I predict that in the not too distant future, the race for Nigerian presidency will be on for these two governors, after they have proved themselves. Omotaylor is not just a dreamer but a visioneer in saying this. Step by step and easy does this. Oluwa a da gbogbo awon afeniferere si (amin).

LP: Ondo govt engages militants to harass tribunals
    Written by Dayo Johnson
    Monday, 30 June 2008
    .Allegation baseless —Govt
LABOUR Party (LP), in Ondo State weekend alleged that the state government was sponsoring a militant group styled Coastal Vigilante Force (VGF), to intimidate the election petitions tribunal sitting in the state.

The party’s Director of Press, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi, claimed government’s move was to intimidate the tribunal to give the governor a favorable verdict in its final judgment.

According to the party, “the militants threatened to cause mayhem in Ondo State should the tribunal cancel the votes in the riverine areas of the state and declare the governorship candidate of the party, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, as the winner of the April 14, 2007 governorship election.

But, in a swift reaction, the state government described the allegation as baseless and improvable.
The Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Mobilisation, Chief Eddy Olafeso, said the governor had since inception being preaching peace and, therefore, would have nothing to do with any group that intends to foment trouble in the state.

Olafeso, who noted that it was the style of LP to raise unnecessary alarm in order to heat up the polity, claimed that the people of the state know it as party of liars which would not be able to substantiate its claims.

LP, however, wondered why this same group had not gone on violence when the tribunal nullified the elections of the two constituency seats in the House of Assembly in Agagu’s local government area (Oktipupa I and II), Ilaje and that of Ese-Odo.

  39. omotayloron 30 Jun 2008 at 2:57 pm

  44. omotayloron 06 Jul 2008 at 3:31 am

A Happy Sunday to all well meaning, God loving, Peace loving people, and all those who keep on striving hard night and day to ensure that Ondo State becomes an Egaliterean Community. A blessed Sunday ti HE Dr Olusegun Mimiko, LP, all hard working lawyers and others for this fight for justice and truth in Ondo State. Well the journey has been long and hard, but God has been faithful throughtout as always. We have been able to prove at the Tribunal that the Mandate of the people of Ondo State as given to HE Dr Olusegum Mimiko was cajoled, wrestled, stolen, forced and falsefully given to Agagu, with the cooperation of and intimidation from OBJ and his cohorts of evil doers. The facts were displayed in court with able and creditable witnesses and factual data. On the other hand Agagu and his PDP group could not substantiate any of their assertions in court, (as they find it hard to substantiate their numerous claims of good administration in Ondo State). They brought in false witnesses who should be arrested and charged with perjury, they brought in FAKE/imposters. The Police could not bring in any witness, they could not defend their stance. OBJ should have been put on stand about the false annunciation of the Ondo State result in ABUJA. Ehindero should have come to state why the police were forced on the good people of Ondo State to intimidate them, but oh I forget, OBJ and Ehindero have serious problems, dont they? So be it for all evil doers will never go unpunished. His Excellency Dr Governor Olusegun Mimiko fought gallantly and righteously. He never wavered. He refused to be bought over and sell his soul to the devil. He was focussed on his mission and vision for Ondo State must be liberated and moved on to progress. Mimiko called for calm and did the CIVIL thing, in spite of all the PDP gymicks. Mimiko loves the people for he is a man of the people, as voted en masse for by the people. We have witnessed a lot in Ondo State from Nigeria, to Africa to the Diaspora. Now we await the final result for this week (I hope) the verdict would be given.

Would the Tribunal dare give a false verdict? I think not (that thing called the Nigerian Factor is gradually being eradicated for many now want to follow the path of truth and righteousness). The Tribunal has to date been fair and have not compromised their position.

Would PDP dare cause trouble in Ondo State when Agagu is booted out of office? I pray not, for they should now realise without an atom of doubt that the age of aggression, brutality, imposition and foolery is gone. They are not wanted in Ondo State, they should simple EVAPORATE. Yes we are aware of Agagu covert attempt to cause confusion by attempting to pay people to cause trouble by calling for a peace rally in A PEACEFUL STATE! How stupid. Thank God for the watchfulness and steadfastness of LP in Ondo State, by exposing all evil plots of PDP in Ondo State (all of which PDP is always quick to refute and rubbish but never convincingly). Agagu has been told for months now to pack his bags and leave. Hopefully he is packing them now.

Most Importantly, will Mimiko prove himself as a man of mission and vision in Ondo State. An unequivocal YES for our man MImiko is not just an aspirant to become governor in Ondo State. He is a freedom fighter, calling for justice, progress and upliftment of the people of Ondo State. He was called a thief by the chief thief OBJ, and found VERY CLEAN. He has a checkable and proven track record. He has proved to have a mind of his own and he is very focussed. He is hardworking, loves the ordinary people, not interested in the Nigerian “chop and quench” mentality. He is not a drunken socialite, he will not tolerate abuse of power and office (for he will tell you from experience that the righteous suffer when this happens).

Well I felt moved to summise the events so far from OMOTAYLOR’S point of view for this week will go down in History in Ondo State and God will reign supreme. For those who still struggle to understand what the fight for freedom and justice is all about, I pray you read books like “The Beautiful Ones are Not Yet Born”, “Weep Not Child”, “Cry Freedom”, and read about the French Revolution and the fights of the French Philosophers like Montesque, Voltaire and JJRouseau for Freedom of the COMMON MAN in France. Thank God it all paid off then, it will also pay off in Ondo State by the grace of God (amen). PEACE

Ondo govt, LP trade accusations over plan to invade Edo – Ahead of Appeal Court judgment
    Yinka Oladoyinbo, Akure
    Friday, November 7, 2008
The Ondo State government and the Labour Party (LP) in the state on Thursday accused each other of attempting to cause crisis in Benin City, Edo State, as the Court of Appeal delivers judgment in the appeal filed on the judgment of the election petition tribunal in the state.

The LP and the government, in separate statements, accused each other of planning to invade the city on Monday with hired thugs to unleash mayhem and terror.

The Director of Press of the LP, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi, alleged that the government had released N250 million for the mobilisation of thugs to foment trouble with a view to intimidating the Appeal Court judges.

He added that government last week took delivery of over 100,000 vests, caps, bandana and pips, which were printed with the picture of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and the LP’s flag.

Olabisi said “these vests, caps, bandana and pips with the colours and inscriptions of the LP would now be distributed to all the 18 local government chairmen who are all PDP members and coordinators who have been instructed to hire twenty buses each to convey the thugs who would be dressed like LP members and storm the venue of the Appeal court in Benin, unleashing terror on the judges and lawyers of the LP.”.

But the Director of Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Adeyemi Adedipe, said the plan to cause trouble was hatched in a meeting of a leader of the LP.

According to him, the agenda of the meeting, with only the top hierarchy of the LP who were put under oath, was to ensure that enough thugs, who would be brought in from outside the state invaded Benin City.

The PDP chieftain added that the confusion, which was being planned to instill fears in the people ahead of the judgment, was the next line of actions by the LP.

Adedipe called on the police and other security operatives in the country to ensure that “the LP elements did not succeed in their devious plans to derail democracy by its do-or-die tactics.”
